Islamabad: At least 299 people have lost their lives while 715 others sustained injuries in flash floods and torrential rains that have swept through vulnerable areas across Pakistan since June 26, said National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
According to Kuwait News Agency, the latest figures given by NDMA on Sunday indicate that a total of 299 people, including 140 children, have lost their lives, and 715 others, including 239 children, have been injured due to flash floods and torrential rains.
The data confirmed that 102 men and 57 women are among the deceased, while 204 women and 272 men sustained injuries. The torrential rains causing flash floods have damaged a total of 1,676 houses across the affected areas. Of these, 562 homes were completely destroyed, while 1,114 sustained partial damage.
Furthermore, the rains have killed 428 livestock, compounding the impact on local communities. The NDMA carried out 223 extensive rescue operations, successfully evacuating 2,880 individuals from flood-hit regions. To support affected communities, the authority has distributed 13,466 relief items in vulnerable areas, including tents, blankets, food packs, life jackets, and dewatering pumps, along with other essential supplies. Authorities have established 71 medical camps, treating 577 people so far.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted more rain, with wind-thundershowers expected in the upper and central regions of the country over the coming week. PMD has prompted provincial disaster management authorities and district administrations to take preventive measures against possible urban flooding.
