Qatar Hosts GCC Ministerial Cybercrime Committee Meeting with Focus on AI Challenges.

Doha: The third meeting for the GCC ministerial cybercrime committee commenced in Qatar, drawing participation from Kuwait. Abdulrahman Al-Malki, President of the Qatar National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), highlighted the committee's achievements in cyberspace. He noted that technical teams have recently completed the GCC cybersecurity strategy, which aims to enhance the GCC's regional and international standing in this domain. According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Malki emphasized the challenges associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly concerning the potential for fraud and misuse, despite its untapped capabilities. He underscored the need for responsibility in harnessing AI's potential through regional and international collaboration. Further, Al-Malki stressed the significance of training courses and exercises as means to exchange views and advance technology. Secretary General of the GCC, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, praised the Gulf countries' progress in cybersecurity, noting that five out of the six GCC members were highly ranked by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2024. Al-Budaiwi lauded the accomplishments of the GCC cybersecurity committee since its inception in 2022, reflecting regional interest in this crucial field. The meeting's agenda includes the 2024-28 GCC cybersecurity strategy and a platform for sharing information on cyber threats. Kuwait's delegation to the meeting is led by Chief of Kuwait National Cyber Security Center, Major General (Rtd) Eng. Mohammad A. Boarki.
