Qatar: Qatar held Oman to a 0-0 draw as part of the first round of Group A in the Asian World Cup qualifiers due in the US, Canada, and Mexico, giving each team one point.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the competition features six teams divided into two groups. Group A includes Qatar, the UAE, and Oman, while Group B consists of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Indonesia. The team that finishes first in each group will secure a spot to join the six teams that have already qualified for the World Cup tournament.
The teams finishing as runners-up in the two groups will have another opportunity through a two-legged playoff scheduled for November 13 and 18. The winner will represent Asia in the intercontinental playoff, where they will compete against teams from other continents for one of the two additional World Cup spots.
The matches are played in a single round-robin format under a centralized system. The Qatar Football Association is hosting the Group A matches, while Saudi Arabia is hosting the Group B matches.
