Prisoners’ Authority: Zakaria Al-Zubaidi faces continuing punishments

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Authority reported that the isolated prisoner, Zakaria Al-Zubaidi, from Jenin Governorate, faces very difficult detention conditions.

The authority explained in a statement today, Monday, according to the visit of its lawyer, that the prisoner Zubaidi, who has been in the cells of Ashkelon for three months, is subjected to daily inspections several times by units affiliated with the prison administration, and suffers from a lack of clothing and only has what he wears and the food provided. Its very poor in terms of quantity and quality.

The authority stated that he is expected to be transferred within the next week from ‘Ashkelon isolation to isolation in another prison,’ as he is subjected to the retaliatory transfer policy every three months.

The Commission held the occupation government and its prison administration fully responsible for the life of Al-Zubaidi, against whom an extremist policy was being practiced in violation of all stipulated
international agreements and treaties.

The occupation forces arrested Al-Zubaidi in 2019, and he and 5 of his comrades (Ayham Kammji, Manadil Nfay’at, Muhammad and Mahmoud Al-Arda, and Yaqoub Qadri) were able to wrest their freedom on September 11, 2021, when they dug a tunnel under the fortified Gilboa prison.

The occupation re-arrested the six prisoners, and sentenced them, in addition to their previous sentences, to actual imprisonment for a period of 5 years and a fine of 5,000 shekels, with a suspended sentence of 8 months to 3 years, in addition to deliberate abuse against them, through the policy of solitary confinement and medical neglect, as well as They were subjected to several physical attacks and great psychological pressure from the jailers, and this racist cycle continues to this day.
