Beirut: President of the President, General Joseph Aoun, on Thursday welcomed at Baabda palace, a European delegation, headed by the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra De Waele, and ambassadors of the EU member states.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Joseph Aoun called on the European Union to support Lebanon in regaining all of its territory and extending state sovereignty over it, and to launch a comprehensive initiative to support the Lebanese Army by all available means. President Aoun emphasized the critical role of the Lebanese Army, warning that its absence could lead to a significant decline in the security situation, which would negatively impact the entire region.
President Aoun also urged the European Union to lift any existing European sanctions imposed on Lebanon and advocated for a European-Arab conference aimed at rebuilding Lebanon and revitalizing its economy, in tandem with its pursuit of full security and military sovereignty.
Aoun noted that the banking restructuring law is nearing completion in the House of Parliament, expressing optimism that it will be approved by the end of this month. He mentioned ongoing efforts by a high-level, focused group to finalize the financial gap law.
Addressing the situation with displaced persons, Aoun asserted the necessity of facilitating their safe, dignified, and coordinated return in light of stabilized conditions in some Syrian regions. He also praised the strong cooperation concerning the security situation on the Lebanese-Syrian border.
