Beirut: President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, paid tribute to the late scholar Imam Muhammad Mahdi Shamseddine, marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of his passing. "Today, and every day, we remember an exceptional man who combined profound thought with unwavering patriotism," Aoun said in a statement.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, President Aoun emphasized the importance of Imam Shamseddine as a landmark figure in Lebanon's history. He highlighted the late Imam's role as a religious leader and thinker who believed in a unified Lebanon and consistently defended coexistence. Aoun noted that Imam Shamseddine's courageous national stances during challenging times served as a guiding light for all Lebanese.
Aoun further reflected on the late Imam's enlightened thought, which balanced authenticity and openness. He remarked on Shamseddine's adherence to identity and belief in dialogue, stating that these qualities continue to be a cherished national legacy and a source of inspiration for building a strong and just Lebanon.
President Aoun concluded by stating that the best way to honor Imam Shamseddine's memory is to follow his path by prioritizing national interest, respecting diversity, and working towards a free, sovereign, and independent Lebanon.
