Pres. Trump Announces USD 100 Billion Taiwanese Chip Making Investment in US

Washington: President Donald Trump announced that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will make a USD 100 billion investment in the United States. This significant investment was revealed during a joint press conference with TSMC's C.C. Wei, where President Trump emphasized its importance for US national security. He noted that this partnership would enable the United States to control approximately 40 percent of the global chip-making market.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the announcement of this investment raises TSMC's total investment in the United States to approximately USD 165 billion. TSMC, one of the world's largest chipmakers, began its US operations in 2020 with the establishment of a factory in Arizona, a project initially costing USD 12 billion. Following this, two additional factories were constructed, amounting to an investment of USD 65 billion.

The Wall Street Journal reported that TSMC plans to bring advanced semiconductors to the United States for the first time outside of Taiwan, marking a significant development in the global semiconductor industry. This move is expected to enhance the technological capabilities of the US and strengthen its position in the global market.
