Portugal: 15 Killed, 18 Injured in Tourist Train Derailment

Lisbon: At least 15 people were killed, and 18 others injured after a tourist train derailed in the Portuguese capital Lisbon on Wednesday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the funicular train, which operates on a cable system, veered off the track at a curve and collided with a building, causing it to overturn and be destroyed.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expressed his "deep sorrow" over the incident on the official Portuguese presidency website and extended his solidarity to the families of the victims.

"Gloria la funicular" is one of the city's iconic landmarks and a major tourist attraction in Lisbon. The train has a capacity of 45 passengers, but no information was released regarding the number of passengers on board during the accident.
