Palestine Welcomes Australia and New Zealand’s Intention to Recognize Its Statehood

Ramallah: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the announcement by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters of their countries' intention to recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly next month.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ministry released two separate press statements, expressing that Australia's announcement aligns with international law and UN resolutions, aiming for peace based on the two-state solution. The Ministry expressed gratitude towards Australia for its stance, stating that it confirms Palestine's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Australia across various sectors. The Ministry also urged other countries to initiate similar recognition to safeguard the two-state solution and foster peace in line with international legitimacy resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the New York Declaration.

The Ministry further urged all nations to sign and adopt the New York Declaration, emphasizing their responsibility to prevent genocide, displacement, and annexation, and to protect the two-state solution. This, the Ministry believes, will contribute to achieving security, stability, and prosperity for the region and globally.
