Islamabad: Pakistani security forces thwarted an attempt by militants to infiltrate through the Pak-Afghan border, killing 54 militants in the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, as reported by the military on Sunday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, a press release issued by Pakistan military's media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), detailed the event. Security forces detected the movement of a large group of militants attempting to infiltrate through the Pak-Afghan border in the general area Hassan Khel in North Waziristan tribal district of KPK. Pakistani troops effectively engaged and thwarted the infiltration attempt, resulting in the elimination of all 54 militants, ISPR confirmed.
The military further stated that intelligence reports suggest the militants were infiltrating on behalf of their "foreign masters" to conduct high-profile terrorist activities inside Pakistan. Pakistan has consistently demanded that the Afghan government ensure effective border management on its side.
