Pakistan Signs Charter of ECO for Clean and Sustainable Energy.


Tehran: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, signed a charter of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Clean Energy Center at the 28th Council of Ministers meeting in Iran on Tuesday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the charter aims at providing clean and sustainable energy to the ECO region. During the ceremony, the minister stressed the importance of promoting intra-regional trade and connectivity, as well as establishing integrated markets and production facilities in the ECO region.

He acknowledged the efforts made by Iran, which served as the ECO chair for the year 2023, and Azerbaijan, the upcoming ECO chair for 2024. Emphasizing the pressing regional economic issues, he reiterated the significance of regional cooperation to address these challenges through initiatives like business-to-business contacts and tourism-related trade.

The minister also pointed out strategies for cooperation in the energy sector, sustainable economies, and the developm
ent of green economies. Earlier, the Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Aragchi, highlighted Pakistan’s role as one of the formative members of the ECO, alongside Iran and Turkiye, since its formation in 1985.

“Pakistan strongly commends the principles of ECO which aim at promotion of trade and connectivity through mutual cooperation,” Aragchi added.
