Islamabad: Pakistan and Indonesia signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields during the visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The signing ceremony took place in Islamabad, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Prabowo Subianto.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the MoUs and agreements cover cooperation in higher education, a grant program for Indonesian state scholarships, business development for small and medium enterprises, collaboration between national archives, narcotics control, cooperation in preventing and combating illicit drug trafficking, Halal trade and certification, and health cooperation.
During a meeting between Prime Minister Sharif and President Subianto, both sides decided to promote their relations in fields including trade, culture, health, education, and vocational training. At a joint press stakeout, the Prime Minister assured that they would work collectively to achieve the targets for collaboration. Highlighting the bilateral trade of USD 4.5 billion, largely favoring Indonesia, the Prime Minister mentioned discussions on measures to balance trade through exports of agricultural products and IT services from Pakistan. He also announced plans to send Pakistani medical professionals to Indonesia. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and the Prime Minister emphasized the desire to celebrate this occasion significantly, aiming for progress and peace in the region.
The Indonesian President stated the countries agreed to expedite the rebalancing of trade relations. He noted coordination in foreign policy, particularly regarding a shared stance on Palestine, supporting the two-state solution. The President expressed gratitude for the hospitality received during his visit, arriving with a high-level delegation for a two-day official stay.
