Pakistan and Indonesia Leaders Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Trade

Islamabad: Pakistan and Indonesia reviewed the state of bilateral trade during a meeting between President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and his visiting Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo, at the President House in Islamabad.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the meeting between the two leaders focused on the historic ties between the two countries, shared values, and long-standing foundations. They reviewed the state of bilateral trade and appreciated the steady rise in economic engagement. Both Presidents noted the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Indonesia and agreed that their relationship continues to rest on shared values and goodwill. They expressed their intent to work more closely for peace, stability, and prosperity.

The discussions included expanding economic cooperation in areas such as information technology, renewable energy, agriculture, halal products, tourism, and infrastructure. Both sides emphasized the importance of working together on climate resilience, disaster management, and sustainable development due to shared challenges. They also agreed to strengthen defense cooperation through training and joint production.

The leaders reaffirmed close coordination between both countries at multilateral forums, including efforts to counter Islamophobia and support Muslim unity. They highlighted the need for more balanced market access and diversification of Pakistan's exports. The establishment of the Joint Trade Committee was welcomed as a forum for addressing trade issues and encouraging business linkages.

While underscoring the need for peace, security, and prosperity in the region, President Zardari briefed the visiting dignitary on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting concluded with a brief private discussion to review the bilateral relationship, during which the Pakistani President conferred "Nishan-e-Pakistan," the highest civil award of Pakistan, on the President of Indonesia.
