London: Over 1,100 essential family tents funded by the UK have arrived in Gaza, with more expected to follow this week, to provide shelter for thousands of civilians. The British Foreign Office announced the arrival of these tents, highlighting their importance in offering critical shelter for over 12,000 Gazans, including families displaced by conflict, as temperatures drop and weather conditions worsen.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this initiative marks a concerted effort by the international community, including the UK and its partners, to improve aid access to Gaza. The delivery of these tents follows months of work aimed at overcoming aid-flow challenges and closed routes that have hindered previous consignments of UK-funded aid from reaching the region.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper emphasized the significance of the tents, stating that families have been struggling under broken roofs and open skies. Cooper noted that the tents would serve as a lifeline, providing much-needed protection from cold winds and relentless rain that threaten to turn rubble into mud.
Despite this progress, Cooper underscored the urgent need for major reconstruction efforts and immediate humanitarian support. She called for unhindered humanitarian access, the opening of all crossings, the implementation of the peace plan, and a path to lasting peace in the region.
