Open-Air Shakespeare Performances Revitalize Paris’s Bois de Boulogne

Paris: In a magical Parisian atmosphere and under the open sky, Shakespeare's words come to life once again in theatrical performances held throughout the summer in the Shakespeare Garden in the Bois de Boulogne, where poetry meets music, classical art meets stunning nature in a unique cultural experience.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the garden hosts open-air performances of William Shakespeare's plays in a natural setting within the park's outdoor spaces. Running from June 14 to September 28, these events offer the public an exclusive cultural experience that blends the timeless works of the legendary English writer with the serene beauty of nature.

The theatre in the garden presents a variety of theatrical and musical works inspired by Shakespeare, including iconic plays such as "Hamlet," "Romeo and Juliet," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and "The Tempest." Co-Director of the garden theater, Hedi Tillette de Clermont-Tonerre, shared that the open-air nature of the venue encourages artists to interact with external elements like light, sun, rain, and even wildlife, which adds a unique character to each performance.

Tillette de Clermont-Tonerre also highlighted that open-air theatres serve as spaces for cultural democracy. Rehearsals take place directly in front of the audience, which helps eliminate barriers between the artists and spectators. The open spaces foster closeness and provide opportunities for interaction between artists and audiences after performances.

Shakespeare's Garden is situated at the eastern end of the Bois de Boulogne, west of Paris. This green space is dedicated to celebrating the works of William Shakespeare and was opened in 1853. It features plant species mentioned in his plays, such as thyme and lavender.
