Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein affirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq continues its efforts to combat terrorism in the world.
Hussein said in a speech at the ceremony commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Iraq: “Terrorist crimes that aim to spread fear will never prevail, and that Iraq affirms its continuation of its efforts to combat terrorism in all parts of the world,” reiterating Iraq’s commitment to supporting all measures that that alleviate the victims of humanitarian crises.
He added, “The targeting of the United Nations headquarters in Iraq is one of the most tragic days in the history of Iraq, because it claimed the lives of many members of the United Nations, led by the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, with his colleagues,” noting that “This incident showed the solidarity of the United Nations and the countries of the world with Iraq.”
