Kuwait city: Oman's Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharousi, praised Kuwait's achievement in securing a place for "Diwaniya" on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Al-Kharousi emphasized the significance of Kuwait's success in highlighting Diwaniya's role in enriching social life and fostering positive societal behaviors.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Kharousi highlighted the cultural and social value of Diwaniyas, noting their role in promoting solidarity, cohesion, and social cooperation. He remarked that Diwaniyas facilitate the sharing of views and ideas among diverse societal groups, embodying principles of consultation akin to parliamentary life. Al-Kharousi drew parallels between Kuwait's Diwaniyas and similar institutions such as "Sablah" in Oman and "Majles" in other GCC states.
Kuwait's Diwaniyas are pivotal platforms for communication and dialogue, enhancing diplomatic engagements by bringing together officials and citizens from various segments. Ambassador Al-Kharousi acknowledged the institution's role in establishing diplomatic Diwaniyas, further congratulating officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters for their efforts in securing the UNESCO listing.
Kuwait submitted the "Diwaniya" file as an individual nomination for the UNESCO list during the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in New Delhi. The delegation, led by NCCAL Acting Assistant Secretary-General for Antiquities and Museum Mohammad bin Reda, marked this achievement as a significant milestone in Kuwait's cultural journey, being the nation's first individual nomination to the international committee.
