OIC Welcomes Belgium’s Intention to Recognize Palestine and Sanction Occupiers

Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomed on Wednesday the Belgian government's announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine and impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation authorities.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the OIC Secretariat stated that these steps reflect Belgium's commitment to international law and UN resolutions regarding the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4th, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The OIC urged other countries to adopt a similar stance and impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation in line with the International Court of Justice. This would contribute to achieving peace, ensuring accountability for the occupiers' actions, and halting ongoing violations against the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, the OIC emphasized the necessity of international support for Palestine's bid to gain full United Nations membership, which would advance efforts to implement a two-state solution for the conflict.
