Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced Saturday the resumption of Syria’s membership in the organization and the adoption of the Arab plan submitted by Egypt in full coordination with Palestine and Arab countries. This came in a decision adopted by the OIC foreign ministers following an extraordinary ministerial meeting held at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the decision welcomed the holding of an international conference in Cairo as soon as possible for recovery and reconstruction in Gaza Strip in cooperation with Palestine and the United Nations. It urged the international community to participate and called for the establishment of an international fund to care for orphans in Gaza Strip.
The OIC stressed the commitment to achieving peace in the Middle East by a complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from all Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. It emphasized the need for the Israeli occupation to implement the permanent and sustainable ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, announced on January 15 by a joint mediation by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. The decision also called for facilitating the return of the displaced to their homes, withdrawing occupation forces, opening all crossings, and ensuring the adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip.
The OIC expressed an absolute rejection and firm confrontation of plans aimed at displacing the Palestinian people individually or in groups, inside or outside their land, or forcibly displacing, exiling, and deporting them in any form and under any circumstances or justification.
Moreover, it supported the vision of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the importance of achieving Palestinian national unity based on commitment to the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. The OIC also called for obtaining full membership in the UN and its agencies.
