OIC Praises Yemen Prisoner Swap as Key Humanitarian Development

Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday applauded a recently concluded prisoner swap agreement in Yemen, highlighting it as a crucial humanitarian step towards reducing humanitarian distress and enhancing opportunities for building confidence. According to Kuwait News Agency, the OIC acknowledged the pivotal roles played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in facilitating the Yemen prisoner exchange negotiations. The OIC emphasized the importance of this agreement in promoting peace and stability in Yemen while aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by the Yemeni population. The Jeddah-based Islamic organization reiterated its strong support for all ongoing initiatives aimed at achieving peace and stability in Yemen, aligning with the aspirations of the Yemeni people. The agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthi militia involves the release of 2,900 prisoners and detainees from both sides. This agreement was reached during the 10th round of negotiations held over 12 days in Muscat, Oman, with the presence of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
