OIC Foreign Ministers Condemn Israeli Official’s Visit to Somaliland

Beijing: The Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States: Strongly condemns the illegal visit recently carried out on 6 January 2026 by an official of Israel, the occupying power, to the so-called "Somaliland", which is part and parcel of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and asserts that this visit constitutes a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Council categorically rejects any illegal foreign military, security, or intelligence presence on any part of Somali territory, particularly the presence of any Israeli occupation force. They emphasize that any attempt to establish military bases, security arrangements, investments, or any foreign presence without the approval of the legitimate Somali Federal Government is an assault on national sovereignty.

The Council stresses that the action by Israel constitutes a gross violation of international law and poses a direct threat to peace and security in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region. It highlights the grave implications for international peace and security, freedom of navigation, and international trade.

The Council affirms its support for the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia as a member of the United Nations and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. It recognizes Somalia's right to seek international judicial and legal mechanisms to hold accountable any party that violates its sovereignty.

The Council calls on member states and organizations to refrain from any engagement with the authorities of the so-called "Somaliland" outside the framework of Somalia's national sovereignty. It warns against cooperation with Israeli schemes regarding Palestinian displacement and categorically rejects any potential links between the Somaliland visit and actions against the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, the Council warns that these practices undermine counter-terrorism efforts and threaten regional and international maritime security. It demands that the international community challenge Israel's actions as threats to peace and security and calls upon the OIC Secretary-General to communicate these violations to international bodies.

The Council also calls on OIC Member States to coordinate their positions at the United Nations and other forums in support of Somalia's unity. It urges the international community, especially Security Council members, to maintain peace and security in the Horn of Africa region and challenges any attempts to impose new realities contrary to international law.

Finally, the Council mandates the Secretary-General to monitor the implementation of this resolution and report to the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers.
