The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged Member States and the international community to further prioritize environmental protection in their domestic and foreign policies, and encourage comprehensive interstate cooperation for the sake of making the world a better and safer place to live in.
OIC issued a statement marking World Environment Day in which it highlighted necessity of finding solutions, and practices to combat plastic pollution, which is turning into a daunting menace to the environment worldwide.
In the quest for prosperity and economic growth, explained OIC, humankind created the issue of plastic pollution, an issue threatening its very future and environmental security.
The organization took this opportunity to highlight the need for adopting a more responsible lifestyle corresponding with the norms and principles of Islam.
The organization’s relevant strategic documents and resolutions of the Summits, Council of Foreign Ministers and the Islamic Conferences of Ministers of Environment reflect its deep interest in environmental issues.
