OIC applauds Saudi-US declaration on sparing civilians in Sudan

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday acclaimed the Sudanese parties’ signing of the Jeddah declaration for sparing civilians in the ongoing violent conflict in the nation.

OIC Secretary General Hussein Ibrahim Taha expressed hope in a statement that the declaration would constitute a crucial step toward resolving the armed struggle in Sudan, boosting the country’s security, peace and stability.

He praised the tremendous efforts that had been exerted by Saudi Arabia and the US to reach this declaration, affirming that the warring parties must adhere to the commitment for ensuring delivery of humanitarian and medical aid for the afflicted in Sudan.

Taha noted the necessity to pursue the serious action within framework of the US-Saudi initiative to work out an immediate and lasting cease-fire and resolve the Sudanese crisis based on peaceful dialogue.

He appealed to the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Force to prioritize the national interest for sake of safeguarding the State institutions, meet people’s aspirations for security, peace, stability and prosperity.
