Kuwait City: Minister of Information and Culture Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi announced that the new media regulatory law is nearing completion. This law is designed to enhance responsible freedom of expression while providing adequate space for diverse voices, Al-Mutairi, who also serves as the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, stated at a press conference. He expressed confidence that the media sector will adhere to the new law, which aims to safeguard the rights and freedoms of others.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait has been selected as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media for 2025, highlighting the country's commitment to developing cultural and media content that aligns with its national identity and heritage. Al-Mutairi noted that this achievement reflects the support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
The recognition of Kuwait as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media is attributed to the combined efforts of the country's media and cultural sectors. This has been achieved through the Ministry's 2021-2026 strategy and the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters' 2023-2028 strategy, both of which aim to promote national identity and engage with global cultures. The minister emphasized that hosting this event underscores Kuwait's commitment to promoting values of tolerance, creativity, and cultural diversity, while enhancing its role as a cultural hub in the Arab region.
The festival's agenda, as detailed by Minister Al-Mutairi, includes 98 activities spanning 235 days. These activities comprise 37 events, 20 investment initiatives, and programs supporting sustainable development and strengthening Arab cultural identity. Additionally, there will be events focusing on technology, such as artificial intelligence, along with a range of high-quality digital events that meet international standards.
Furthermore, Minister Al-Mutairi stressed the importance of creating a platform to receive ideas, initiatives, and proposals from the public, ensuring that the community is actively involved in shaping the cultural and media landscape.
