NDHR and UN Collaborate to Strengthen Human Rights Cooperation

Kuwait city: The National Diwan for Human Rights (NDHR) held a coordination meeting with the United Nations' office in Kuwait to enhance joint cooperation and international standards.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Ghada Al-Taher, the representative of the UN Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator to Kuwait, with participation from several UN offices and agencies. The Chairman of the Tripartite Committee for the Management of NDHR, Minister Plenipotentiary Anas Al-Shaheen, along with committee members and other concerned parties, were also in attendance.

The meeting focused on exploring prospects for technical and legal cooperation between the NDHR and the UN, aiming to develop existing partnerships that contribute to strengthening Kuwait's human rights system. Discussions included efforts to support institutional capacity building and improve monitoring, follow-up, and documentation mechanisms.

The importance of aligning national policies and programs with international standards was also highlighted, particularly in the context of following up on international recommendations issued by UN human rights mechanisms. Both sides stressed the significance of ongoing coordination and the exchange of expertise to bolster NDHR's national role and to enhance cooperation with the UN's human rights and development initiatives of mutual interest.
