NCCAL Partners with French Institution in Heritage Conservation Program.


Kuwait City: Kuwait’s National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL) joined a French institution in a training program to rehabilitate and conserve the heritage sites. The innovative program, organized by the French Research Center for the Arabian Peninsula (CEFREPA), was attended by NCCAL Secretary General Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar and France Ambassador to Kuwait Olivier Gauvin.

According to Kuwait News Agency, CEFREPA Director Makram Abbas stated the training program falls within the framework of cultural cooperation between the French center and NCCAL, which dates back to 2015. The program aims to equip Kuwaiti architects and archaeologists with additional skills, modern tools, and a clear insight into the rehabilitation of historical buildings. It includes lectures and field training under the supervision of the French institution. Abbas praised the joint Kuwaiti-French initiatives in the field of heritage conservation.

Zahraa Alibaba, responsible for NCCAL’s historical buildings department, men
tioned that the program started on Sunday, December 1, and will continue until Thursday, December 12. In similar statements to KUNA, she said the lectures and workshops of the program help build the capacity of Kuwaiti architects in the rehabilitation and documentation of heritage sites and historical buildings. The field training included work on two historical buildings, Al-Gharballi and Najaf bin Redha, located at Souq Mubarakiya.
