NATO chief lauds partnership with Japan

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Tuesday expressed his appreciation for the Alliance’s partnership with Japan.

“The political dialogue, the practical cooperation, and we welcome this opportunity to further expand what we do together,” he told a news conference after a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi at the margins of a NATO foreign ministers meeting this evening.

“What happens in Europe matters for Asia, for the Indo Pacific, and what happens in Asia and the Indo Pacific matters for Europe,” he said adding that they will also meet with Asia-Pacific partners -New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, tomorrow (Wednesday).

The NATO chief welcomed that Japan has decided to open a dedicated diplomatic mission to NATO.

On his part, Yoshimasa Hayashi told the joint press conference that anything that happens in Ukraine could happen anywhere in the world.

He said: “Russia’s aggression in Ukraine will never be accepted.” “Only as one country to suffer from atomic bombs in the wartime, .. its use will never never be acceptable by Japan ” he stressed.
