Kuwait city: Libya's High Council of State (HCS) elected on Sunday Mohammad Takala as its new president in a voting session attended by 95 of the council's 145 members.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Takala secured 59 votes, while Ali Juwan received 14 votes, Ali-Al-Sweh garnered 13, and Naji Mukhtar obtained eight.
The election was conducted to address a leadership dispute that emerged in August 2024 between Takala and former council chairman Khaled Al-Mishri. The dispute arose after a controversial vote, and several mediation attempts could not reconcile the differences between the two factions.
