Kuwait city: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), recognized 44 Kuwaiti female innovators at an event held at the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre (ASCC) on the occasion of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science. According to Kuwait News Agency, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, spoke during the event, emphasizing that this recognition aligns with Article (14) of the Kuwaiti Constitution and the "Creative Human Capital" pillar of the New Kuwait 2035 Vision. Sheikha Jawaher, who is also the Chairperson of the National Committee for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, highlighted that the celebration underscores Kuwait's dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 5 on gender equality and Goal 9 related to industry, innovation, and infrastructure. T he ambassador elaborated that these initiatives are part of Kuwait's voluntary pledges for its membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term, in alignment with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the Beijing Platform for Action aimed at empowering women and enhancing their rights. She also mentioned that the event enacts the "Kuwait Declaration" from the 45th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in 2025, which emphasizes empowering women across all fields and the role of academic and research institutions in preserving Gulf identity and heritage. Sheikha Jawaher pointed out that the celebration is in line with this year's UN General Assembly theme, "From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM through Closing the Gender Gap," stressing the need to transition from theoretical frameworks to actionable policies that have a real impact on the scientific research landscape. She expressed pride in the international accolades received by the honorees, noting that women constitute 70 percent of the scientific workforce according to global indicators, reflecting the country's commitment to unlocking women's creative potential. In conclusion, the Assistant Foreign Minister reiterated that this approach is driven by the vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who believes that empowering women in science and technology is crucial for enhancing national competitiveness and building a knowledge-based economy.
