Min. Al-Mashaan Chairs Key Meeting on Kuwait’s Major Development Projects

Kuwait city: Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan chaired the 46th meeting of the ministerial committee responsible for overseeing the executive status of major development projects in Kuwait. The session focused on the progress of various projects outlined in memoranda of understanding between Kuwait and other nations, with key discussions on Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, electricity systems, renewable energy advancements, and low-carbon waste recycling initiatives.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the meeting also covered topics such as housing development, environmental infrastructure for wastewater treatment plants, the establishment of free and economic zones, land reclamation efforts, ecosystem rehabilitation, expansion of afforestation programs, and environmental protection measures to combat sand encroachment across the country.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Mashaan announced that the executive contract for the North Kabd Wastewater Treatment Plant would be signed in February with a designated Chinese state-owned company. This contract will be finalized under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and senior officials.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and committee rapporteur Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat emphasized the importance of periodic reviews of agreements with other governments, highlighting the need for continued coordination among state bodies to expedite the implementation of major projects.

The committee also evaluated the progress on the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, including a proposal from the China Baowu Steel Group to set up an iron and steel plant on Boubyan Island. Kuwait has shown interest in supporting and potentially co-investing in this venture.

The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdulatif Al-Mishari, Minister of Finance Dr. Yaqoub Al-Refai, Director General of KDIPA Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Head of the Fatwa and Legislation Department Counselor Salah Al-Majed, as well as senior officials from the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs.
