Milestones in Kuwait’s History Marked by Significant Developments

Kuwait city: Today in Kuwait's history, several notable events stand out, reflecting the nation's progress and development across various sectors. In 1911, the Al-Mubarakiya School was inaugurated, named after Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, Kuwait's seventh ruler. This educational institution was built at a cost of 80,000 rupees, generously donated by prominent Kuwaiti citizens. Sheikh Yousef Al-Qinaee took charge of the school, which welcomed its first batch of 254 students upon its opening.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1999, a decree was signed by Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, exempting UN agencies operating in Kuwait from paying rent for occupying a 3,000-square-meter plot in the Mishref area. This move was a significant step in supporting international organizations in the country.

In 2009, EQUATE Petrochemical Company announced the commencement of commercial operations at its USD two billion aromatics complex. In the same year, a new field of light crude oil and gas was discovered in the Mutreba region, northwest of Kuwait, with a preliminary output capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil and 110 million cubic feet of gas per day. Additionally, Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah sponsored and attended the 75th anniversary celebration of Kuwait Oil Company in Al-Ahmadi, an event graced by the presence of then Turkish President Abdullah Gul.

The centenary anniversary of regular education in Kuwait was celebrated by the Ministry of Education in 2011, marking 100 years of formal education in the country. In 2014, Kuwait Airways signed an agreement to purchase 10 Boeing long-range 777-300ER aircraft, further enhancing the airline's fleet capabilities.

In 2015, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed two agreements to lend Mauritania KD six million to fund operations of the development fund. Sadly, the same year saw the passing of MP Nabil Al-Fadhl at the age of 66 during a parliamentary session due to a fatal health issue.

Finally, in 2017, Kuwait hosted the 23rd edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup tournament, where Oman emerged as the winners of the soccer competition.
