Mali’s Historical Manuscripts Return to Timbuktu After 13 Years

Mali: The historical manuscripts of Timbuktu have been returned to the city after being relocated to Bamako in 2012 to safeguard them from armed groups. The return was marked by an official ceremony with the presence of a ministerial delegation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, these ancient documents are of great significance, representing the cultural legacy of scholars and thinkers who have significantly contributed to the intellectual history of the Sahel region. The manuscripts were originally moved due to the control of armed groups over northern Mali in 2012, which resulted in the destruction of historical sites in Timbuktu. To protect these valuable documents, some residents transported them to Bamako, where part of the collection underwent restoration.
