Mali Sues Algeria Over Downing of Drone

Bamako: The interim government of Mali announced on Thursday that it has taken legal action against Algeria at the International Court of Justice. This move follows the downing of a Malian military reconnaissance drone in late March.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the unmanned aerial vehicle was on a routine mission and did not violate Algerian airspace when it was shot down in the rural border area of Tinzaouaten, located in the northeast of Mali. The Malian government's statement described the incident as a hostile act and a violation of Mali's national sovereignty.

Mali has requested the International Court of Justice to investigate the incident, citing Algeria's lack of response to requests for clarification as a key concern. The situation has escalated tensions between the neighboring countries, with Mali seeking accountability and resolution through international legal channels.
