Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamad Hassan announced that Malaysia is prepared to welcome 15 Palestinians recently released from Israeli occupation prisons. This initiative is part of the ceasefire agreement between Israeli occupation and Hamas, which commenced on January 19.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal stipulates that some of the released Palestinians will not be permitted to return to Gaza. Some of these individuals have been incarcerated for up to 30 years. Hassan emphasized that Malaysia's acceptance of these individuals is a small yet significant contribution to fostering peace in Gaza. He highlighted Malaysia's longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, viewing this action as part of its international responsibilities.
Hassan also revealed that the Malaysian Foreign Ministry has raised approximately USD 21 million to support Palestinians, with USD 14 million already distributed. He affirmed his commitment to advocating for the Palestinian cause in his international engagements, aiming for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the cessation of crimes against humanity and genocide in the region.
Media reports indicate that the initial phase of the ceasefire between Israeli occupation and Hamas resulted in the release of approximately 1,900 Palestinian prisoners. Among them were over 270 individuals serving life sentences for their involvement in the deaths of numerous Israelis.
