KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is rallying support for initiatives regarding the Palestinian cause that will be tabled at the Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh next week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced Monday. Addressing the parliament, Ibrahim confirmed that he intends to present a proposal at the summit advocating for full support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it to operate effectively. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ibrahim emphasized that this support would encompass social and humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people residing in occupied territories. He expressed Malaysia's firm opposition to the Israeli occupation parliament's decision against UNRWA, warning that such a stance could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza. Ibrahim further stated that the Arab-Islamic summit should endorse mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to achieve a ceasefire. He revealed that Malaysia plans to discuss an ac tion plan at the summit, outlining concrete steps to attain Palestinian independence within a defined and reasonable timeframe. The Riyadh summit, scheduled for November 11, is set to address the ongoing aggression by the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
