Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and Indonesia on Friday expressed strong opposition to remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding his aspirations to establish a "great Israel" and Tel Aviv's plan to construct thousands of new settlements.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Malaysia's Foreign Ministry released a statement condemning the occupation plan to build new settlements, labeling it a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, international law, and relevant UN resolutions. The statement emphasized that the primary objective of the E-1 scheme is to maintain the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and undermine efforts to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Malaysian government also expressed deep concern over the intentional killing of journalists and media workers in Gaza, describing it as a blatant breach of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2222, which calls for the protection of journalists in conflict zones. These actions are seen as part of a campaign to hinder independent media coverage, obstruct the dissemination of information about settler violence, and conceal genocide and war crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Simultaneously, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement rejecting Netanyahu's "vision about great Israel," which aims to annex the entirety of Palestinian territories and other regional areas. The statement described this vision as a clear violation of international law and a threat to peace prospects in Palestine and the broader Middle East.
Indonesia condemned what it termed a "dangerous agenda," reiterating its commitment to achieving a peaceful solution based on justice and international norms. The statement stressed that a lasting peace can only be realized by ensuring the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state that coexists with Israel.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to reject any form of territorial annexation and urged the council to take decisive action to thwart Israeli plans that undermine peace opportunities. It emphasized the urgency for the global community to unite and act to prevent the escalation of the conflict, which endangers the future of the Palestinian people and regional stability.
