Magnitude 5.2 quake hits Tokyo

An earthquake measuring 5.2 degrees on the Richter scale struck the greater Tokyo region on Thursday, injuring four people, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said.

The Weather Agency stated in press conference that no tsunami warning was issued, and the focus of the temblor was in the southern part of Chiba Prefecture adjacent to Tokyo at a depth of 40 km.

The agency warned that quakes could occur in the affected areas for about a week, urging the residents to remain on guard against possible seismic activities.

Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries, accounting for about 20 percent of the world’s earthquakes of magnitude six or greater.
