Madagascar Ruler Appoints Businessman as New Prime Minister

Antananarivo: Madagascar’s leader Col. Michael Randrianirina has named businessman Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo as the island nation’s new prime minister, marking a significant step towards forming a new government following the ousting of former president Andry Rajoelina.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Rajaonarivelo was chosen due to his extensive experience in the financial sector and strong connections with international organizations. This announcement was made by Randrianirina in a statement released on Tuesday and covered by local media.

Randrianirina, who was sworn in before the supreme constitutional court last Friday, refuted allegations of leading a military coup. He asserted that the transition arose from the will of the people. Meanwhile, Rajoelina, speaking from exile, condemned the military’s seizure of power, maintaining that he did not officially resign.
