Lebanon Relies on Egypt’s Pivotal Role in the Arab Region, Says President Aoun

Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized Lebanon's reliance on Egypt's crucial political role in the Arab region and Cairo's support amid the nation's current challenging circumstances.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Presidency released a statement highlighting President Aoun's discussions with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. During their meeting, President Aoun underscored the importance of re-activating the higher joint commission between the two nations. The statement quoted Madbouly expressing Cairo's support for Lebanon and commending the steps taken by President Aoun and the Lebanese government to restore stability and state sovereignty across all Lebanese territories.

Madbouly's visit to Beirut also aimed to discuss the re-activation of the joint commission, which had convened in Cairo last month. Discussions with the Lebanese government covered cooperation in various sectors, including power, gas, industries, and transportation. Madbouly noted that both the Egyptian government and the private sector could assist Lebanon in ventures such as the reconstruction of South Lebanon.

Furthermore, the Egyptian prime minister reiterated Cairo's condemnation of attacks by the Israeli occupation. Meanwhile, President Aoun praised the US-French-Saudi agreement announced in Paris on Thursday, which calls for an international conference to support the Lebanese army and internal security forces. Aoun emphasized that the armed forces are key to ensuring Lebanon's security, stability, and sovereignty.
