Beirut: A Lebanon ceasefire agreement came into effect early Wednesday, prompting Lebanese internally displaced persons to begin returning to their towns and villages. According to Kuwait News Agency, as the ceasefire began at dawn, residents of the south and Beqaa Valley started their journey back home. The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that traffic on roads leading from Beirut to these areas was heavy as families made their way back to their hometowns. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army Command issued a statement indicating that with the implementation of the ceasefire, the army is taking necessary steps to complete its deployment in the south as mandated by the Lebanese Government. The deployment is being carried out in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) within the framework of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. The army has urged people to delay returning to the frontline villages and towns where the Israeli occupation had advanced, pending their withdr awal under the ceasefire agreement. It emphasized the importance of adhering to military instructions to ensure safety and urged caution regarding unexplored or suspicious objects left behind by the Israeli forces. Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, welcomed the ceasefire agreement in a statement. Additionally, Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ali Hamieh, announced that crews have begun clearing roads in the southern suburbs to prepare for a safe return of residents. Lebanon experienced the most intense airstrikes on Tuesday since the beginning of the conflict in September, with Israeli forces targeting various areas, including the capital. The Public Health Ministry's Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) released casualty reports late Tuesday, detailing the aftermath of the strikes, which resulted in 14 deaths and 10 injuries, some in critical condition. Since September 23, Lebanon has endured relentless airstrikes by the Israeli occupation, leading to significant human a nd material losses and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.
