Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed that Lebanon is an essential part of the Arab world, emphasizing the need for a unified Arab stance and support for the Arab Peace Initiative. His remarks came during a meeting with Arab Parliament President Mohammad Al-Yamahi, where he expressed gratitude to Arab nations for their continuous support amid Lebanon's challenging times.
According to Kuwait News Agency, President Aoun condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks, including recent assaults on the Hermel highlands, as well as the devastation in Gaza and periodic strikes in Syria. He called for a coordinated Arab response to these events, highlighting the importance of unity among Arab countries. The Lebanese Presidency released a statement detailing these discussions.
During the meeting, Al-Yamahi expressed the Arab Parliament's unwavering support for Lebanon's security, unity, and sovereignty. He emphasized the importance of resisting any external interference and noted that Lebanon's stability is crucial for the collective security of the Arab region. Al-Yamahi also supported efforts to counter Israeli violations, advocating for Israel's withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, the reconstruction of affected areas, and the return of displaced residents to their villages.
Following the meeting, Al-Yamahi reiterated the Arab Parliament's commitment to Lebanon's reform process and pledged ongoing coordination with the Lebanese Parliament.
