Lebanese President Affirms Need for Continued World Bank Support

Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Friday underscored the necessity for the World Bank to remain aligned with Lebanon during this delicate period, emphasizing the importance of continued constructive cooperation with Beirut to aid the nation on its recovery path. The president made these remarks while hosting World Bank Group (WBG) Executive Director Abdulaziz Al Mulla and a delegation of the WB's Board of Directors at the Presidential Baabda Palace.

According to Kuwait News Agency, President Aoun praised the World Bank's strategy of linking financial aid to reforms that boost accountability, affirming Lebanon's commitment to reforms despite facing enormous challenges. He expressed gratitude to the delegation for the ongoing support the World Bank provides to Lebanon and highlighted the progress achieved through ongoing reforms, particularly in strengthening governance. The president also discussed cooperation with the International Monetary Fund as a means to rebuild confidence in the country's financial sector and attract investments.

President Aoun further emphasized that Lebanon is currently concentrating on reforming its judicial system, asserting that no reforms can be effectively implemented without a robust and efficient judicial system. He reiterated the importance of the World Bank's support during this critical phase, stressing the need for continued constructive collaboration to support Lebanon's recovery and sustainable growth.
