Lebanese President Advocates Cooperation with Iran Through Sovereignty and Mutual Respect

Baabda: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed on Wednesday his country's willingness to cooperate with Iran through setting "sovereignty" boundaries and displaying mutual respect. A statement by the Lebanese Presidency indicated that this commitment was expressed during Aoun's meeting with Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, at Baabda Palace.

According to Kuwait News Agency, President Aoun emphasized that Iran's relationship with Lebanon should encompass all Lebanese citizens rather than focusing on a specific sector of society. He underscored that Lebanon is a nation of institutions, with security safeguarded by its constitution, and reiterated Lebanon's stance against any external interference in its national affairs. Aoun stressed that the primary goal for Lebanon is achieving security and stability for the benefit of all its people.

In response, Ali Larijani expressed Tehran's intention to strengthen ties with both the Lebanese state and its citizens, highlighting Iran's desire to assist Lebanon in rebuilding its institutions. Larijani assured that Iran is not seeking to meddle in Lebanese internal affairs, and his visit underscored Iran's commitment to fostering positive relations with Lebanon.

Additionally, Larijani proposed the creation of a fund aimed at helping Lebanon mitigate the effects of the Israeli occupation's military actions. He praised President Aoun's efforts in unifying the Lebanese people under one banner.
