Lebanese PM Affirms Commitment to Extending Sovereignty Over Northern and Southern Regions

Beirut: Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam affirmed on Wednesday his country's commitment to continuing its efforts to extend sovereignty over the north and south of the Litani River. This declaration was made during his speech in response to MPs' questions in the general session of the House of Representatives, which was dedicated to discussing the government's general policy.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Salam emphasized the significant progress made by the army in extending state sovereignty over lands south of the Litani. He reiterated Lebanon's dedication to reform and rescue efforts, emphasizing the need to mobilize Arab and international support to pressure Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory and halt its attacks.

Salam also highlighted the government's comprehensive plan for the safe and sustainable return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. He revealed that 16,000 requests had been registered over the past 10 days for the return of Syrian refugees to Syria. Furthermore, Salam assured that prioritizing the rights of bank depositors is crucial, which necessitates introducing transparency and order into the banking sector.

The Prime Minister mentioned ongoing discussions within the government concerning the possibility of signing agreements to establish gas-powered power plants to address the country's energy needs. Earlier, Lebanon's Parliament renewed its confidence in Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's government with a vote outcome of 95 in favor, including 69 MPs voting in favor, 9 MPs voting No confidence, and 4 MPs abstaining from the voting process.
