Kuwait city: Poet Abdullah Al-Sannan passed away at the age of 67, marking a somber moment in Kuwait’s cultural landscape.
According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1990, Syrian forces arrived at the Saudi port of Yanbu to join the international coalition troops stationed in the Kingdom. This move was part of efforts to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation. In 1998, Kuwait achieved recognition on the international stage by winning the Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction’s Award for the Al-Naeem Residential Project in Al-Jahra, which was one of the major housing projects from 1990 to 1995, consisting of 2,592 units.
In the realm of education, 2000 saw the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) approve the establishment of the Students Union, paving the way for enhanced student representation. In 2008, NATO warships docked at Shuwaikh Port for a six-day drill as part of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), showcasing Kuwait’s involvement in international defense collaborations.
The legacy of influential individuals was also noted in 2012, with the passing of former Kuwait Airways Chairman Ahmad Al-Zaben at the age of 66. Al-Zaben had previously been elected President of the London-based International Safety Organization, making history as the first Arab to hold the position. Additionally, sports achievements were celebrated in 2017 when the Kuwait national ice hockey team won the Bangkok Ice Hockey Championship by defeating the Canadian team “Sting” with a score of 3-2.
In 2019, the government approved a draft decree appointing Faisal Al-Shaya as President of the State Audit Bureau, a significant development in Kuwait’s administrative leadership.
