Kuwait’s National Library Hosts GCC Arab Culture Capitals Forum

Kuwait city: The National Library of Kuwait on Monday hosted the Gulf Cooperation Council Forum - Capitals of Arab Culture, in celebration of World Arabic Language Day. This event coincided with Kuwait's designation as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Laila Al-Sabaan, President of the Global Council for the Arabic Language, emphasized the celebration's reflection of Arabic's status as a cultural and civilizational bridge among peoples. The forum, which included council members from GCC states, was organized in collaboration with Kuwait National Library and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL).

Dr. Al-Sabaan stated that the forum aims to reinforce cultural ties and foster cooperation among GCC countries, highlighting cultural heritage as an enduring legacy for future generations. Seham Al-Azmi, Director General of Kuwait National Library, added that the forum is focused on enhancing cultural relations within the GCC and preserving the Arabic language as a key aspect of Arab identity in the face of global challenges.

The forum's agenda featured lectures on cultural development in GCC countries, delivered by academics from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Yemen. These activities are set to continue on Tuesday. An exhibition, organized by the Kuwait Heritage Society, accompanied the forum, showcasing rare Arabic books and magazines, including publications that document Kuwait's history.
