KUWAIT CITY: Today marks significant events in Kuwait's history, showcasing the nation's resilience and achievements over the years. Among these events, 1990 stands out when Kuwait's Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, addressed the people and international community three months after Iraq's invasion. He emphasized the necessity for full implementation of international, Arab, and Islamic resolutions to end the occupation, expressing hope for Kuwait's liberation. According to Kuwait News Agency, in 2005, Kuwait received five of its citizens who had been detained at the Guantanamo Bay facility, with six others remaining in custody. In 2008, a significant financial milestone was achieved when Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a law guaranteeing deposits at local banks, ensuring financial stability. Kuwait's prowess in sports was highlighted in 2009 and 2012 when Kuwait SC won the Asian Football Cup, defeating Karama SC of Syria and Irbil SC, respectively. The 2014 recognition of Amir Sheikh Sabah A l-Ahmad Al-Sabah as a Humanitarian Leader by the UN led to the government launching the "Humanitarian Leader" slogan for national celebrations in 2015. In 2016, Kuwaiti athlete Yusus Al-Abdulrazzaq achieved top ranking in the Aquabike World Championship among 200 competitors. The same year, Kuwait excelled at the Cairo art and media mondial, securing 35 awards and taking first place.
