Kuwait’s Membership in WCO Audit Committee Extended Until 2026

Brussels: Kuwait's membership in the World Customs Organization (WCO) Audit Committee has been extended for an additional year, now set to continue until July 2026. This decision was made during Kuwait's participation in the 145th/146th WCO Council meeting, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, from June 26 to 28, 2025.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the achievement is a testament to Kuwait's efforts in digital transformation and its commitment to enhancing transparency and customs governance. The meeting, attended by the General Administration of Customs representing Kuwait, addressed various topics such as the promotion of digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence in customs procedures.

The discussions also covered issues related to goods affected by transfer pricing, the significance of reforming financial systems, and the exchange of expertise among member states to combat customs smuggling. Fatima Al-Qallaf, the Head of the Kuwaiti delegation and Director General of the General Administration of Customs, stated that Kuwait's membership reflects the international community's confidence in the effective role played by the administration.

Al-Qallaf highlighted that the administration has made significant progress in digital transformation through electronic connectivity with government agencies to simplify customs clearance procedures. Additionally, the administration has provided integrated electronic services for individuals, including travel agency and electronic authorization services, all facilitated by modern digital systems.

The meeting further included the election of the Nigerian Customs Chief as Chairperson of the WCO Council, along with elections for the positions of Vice President and members of the Political and Financial Committees as well as the Audit Committee.
