Kuwait’s Historical Milestones Reflect Progress and Development

KUWAIT CITY: Today marks several significant milestones in Kuwait's history, highlighting the country's cultural, environmental, and industrial progress. Over the decades, Kuwait has embarked on a journey of development, ranging from cultural renaissance to environmental commitment and industrial growth. According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1923, Amin Al-Rihani, a renowned writer and traveler, visited Kuwait and was hosted by the Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. During his visit, Al-Rihani documented the literary and cultural renaissance in his book "Molook Alarab," showcasing the country's vibrant cultural scene. In 1964, the establishment of the Hunting and Equestrian Club marked a new chapter in the country's recreational activities. By 1973, Kuwait demonstrated its commitment to environmental preservation by signing the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, known as the London Convention. Continuing its development trajectory, 1979 saw the inaugurati on of Kuwait's iconic three towers on the Arabian Gulf Road, symbolizing traditional elements such as a censer, a sprinkler, and a kohl jar. The following years brought further advancements; in 1981, the Public Institution for Social Security implemented insurance for old age, inability, and illness cases. In 1982, a decree by Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber A-Ahmad Al-Sabah approved the constitution of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), aiming to enhance industrial development in developing countries. After the liberation from Iraqi aggression in 1991, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah established a supreme committee to strategize the preservation of state security and sanctity. The following decades saw remarkable achievements such as Dr. Fayza Al-Kharafi's election to the board of the UN University in 1998 and the arrival of "Peninsula Shield" forces in 2003 to defend Kuwait from regional threats. In 2015, the "Al-Majlis" television channel of the National Assembly was launched, and in 2016, the National Assembly allocated KD 150 million to purchase Eurofighter jets. Notably, in 2017, jet ski champion Yusuf Alabdulrazzaq entered the Guinness World Records for winning the world tournament for three consecutive years. More recently, in 2021, Minister of Commerce and Industry Faisal Almedlej established the Kuwaiti Consumer Protection Association, reflecting ongoing efforts to safeguard consumer rights.
