Kuwait’s Historical Milestones Highlighted by Landmark Achievements

Kuwait city: The Ministry of Information's production of Al-Assefa (The Storm) marked a significant milestone in Kuwait's cultural history as it became the first Kuwaiti movie. Written by Abdulameer Al-Turki and directed by Mohammad Al-Sanousi, the film starred prominent actors Abdulhussain Abdulredha, Khaled Al-Nefisi, Johar Salem, and the Ibn Hussain traditional band.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1988, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia reached an agreement concerning properties in the divided zone. Kuwait committed to paying KD eight million to Saudi Arabia to compensate Saudi citizens for their properties in the northern part of the zone. Additionally, Kuwaiti citizens would be compensated for their farmlands in the southern part, which would be transferred to Saudi ownership.

In 1992, Kuwait made history by exporting the largest shipment of oil extracted from over 300 oil lakes, a consequence of the Iraqi occupation forces' destruction of more than 700 oil wells. Two years later, in 1994, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research established a regional center dedicated to the study and analysis of rocks from oil wells.

In 1998, Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurated the first session of the GCC Advisory Authority. This significant event was a result of a proposal by the Kuwaiti Amir, which aimed to strengthen regional cooperation.

By 2000, the Ministry of Information recognized individuals who significantly contributed to Kuwait's cultural movement. Historian Saif Al-Shamlan, poet Ahmad Al-Saqqaf, and Khaled Al-Zaid were awarded State Awards for their efforts in enriching Kuwaiti culture.

The year 2016 saw the Ministry of Public Works receiving the Climate Change and Sustainable Environment Conference's sustainable award for its innovative approach in designing sustainable buildings. In the same year, Barrak Al-Jasmi achieved international recognition by winning the world's Motocross championship in California.

In 2018, Kuwait celebrated a major economic achievement as Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah attended the ceremony for the export of the first light crude shipment at Ahmadi Area. By 2021, the Kuwaiti government announced that Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah exercised his constitutional rights to grant amnesty to several indicted citizens, showcasing a commitment to justice and reconciliation.

In 2022, the Water Research Center under Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research attained a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This patent was awarded for inventing a technique that simultaneously facilitates water desalination and air cooling, marking a breakthrough in environmental technology.
